Outdoor Recreation in Anaheim CA

While Anaheim may be the famous home of Mickey Mouse, there is so much more than Disneyland to those in live in the area. The city’s Parks Division demonstrates its commitment to quality of life for the residents in all areas of the city, including Anaheim Hills, which is a planned community at the east end of the larger city. Anaheim boasts 57 parks that cover approximately 800 acres.

So, even in a highly developed area, Anaheim Hills provides plenty of green space.

There are too many parks in the entire city of Anaheim to describe, but here is a description of a few parks that are either located in or near the Anaheim Hills area.

Yorba Regional Park provides both lighted baseball fields and a lighted football/soccer area. Since the 13-acre park hosts sports events, a concession stand is also available. This park bears the name of Don Bernardo Yorba who was a early local landowner. He is known in California for introducing agricultural irrigation to the state. Additionally, hikers and bikers can find a trail head for a trail system.

Oak Canyon Nature Center takes local residents and visitors out of big city life to a secluded 58-acre area that provides a trail head to hiking trails through oak woodland and coastal sage scrub for ambitious brisk walks or leisurely strolls. This park also has a small museum, the John J. Collier Interpretive Center. The museum features regional natural history and live animal exhibits.

This park also offers tours and facilities for events such as weddings, birthday parties and a children’s day camp.

The highest concentration of biking and hiking trails is located in the Anaheim Hills area with an extensive network of trails.

The beautiful Anaheim Hills Golf Course provides another green escape from city life for residents and visitors. In fact, Orange County’s most accomplished golfers play there.
